Sony Open: Si Woo Kim heard a noise just before he hit his chip from behind the par-3 17th green on Sunday afternoon at Waialae Country Club.
With two holes remaining, Hayden Buckley had birdied the hole behind him to grab the lead by one stroke. With the 18th hole being a par-5 and Kim now down by one stroke, he decided he had to respond.
He responded correctly.
Kim managed to get the 10-yard chip running on a decent line despite a challenging lie towards the grain. The ball landed on the right side of the cup a little while afterwards. Birdie. Unwinnable game.
If he hit a par, Kim remarked, “I’d be more anxious because I’d have to save it and especially into the grain with the pressure. But I was certain it was a bird. I could hear them. Bogey does well. I have to hit it hard if I want to pass the hole. That truly helps, in my opinion. not a thing to lose.”

In order to beat Buckley by a shot, Kim proceeded to ace the last hole by shooting a 5-iron from another bunker onto the front of the green and two-putting.
Kim afterwards remarked that the last bunker shot was simple.
“Since I was there yesterday, it feels more at ease,” he remarked.
Kim was brutally honest about the last chip-in. The man felt uneasy.
He remarked, “I was just trying to keep calm, and peaceful was kind of like less back nine, but I kept trying to calm.”
“Was a fortunate chip.”
