WCG-Dell Match Play: In the final of the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play, Sam Burns defeated fellow American Cameron Young 6&5 to win his fifth PGA Tour title and deny his opponent a first.
Burns and Young had beaten defending champion Scottie Scheffler and 2015 winner Rory McIlroy in the semi-finals on Sunday afternoon, ensuring a new champion would be crowned in what is slated to be the event’s final edition.
Burns won the Valspar Championship in 2021 and 2022, as well as the Sanderson Farms Championship in 2021 and the Charles Schwab Challenge in May of last year, with eight birdies in ten holes from the fourth hole on.

No. 15 in the world Burns was one hole behind after bogeying the second but recovered to be five ahead with six holes to play following a string of gains that began with three in a row across the fourth, fifth, and sixth holes.
World No. 17 Young, who has a string of second-place results, including last year’s Open Championship at St Andrew’s, then hit the water off the tee at 13, before Burns clinched victory and the $3.5m top prize with his eighth birdie of the day.
“What a week, I’m really fatigued,” Burns added. “I know Cam wasn’t at his best, but it was a fantastic match. I felt like I found something at the end of my match with Scottie [Scheffler] that I could take over this afternoon.
“All I’ve done is stack one good stroke after another. That is what I have attempted to do today and in recent weeks. It’s great to see my hard work paying off on the golf course.”

“All I can take away is that I played pretty well,” Young continued. I’m simply grateful I made it all the way here. I felt like I had a lot of strong opponents coming up and then I came into Sam Burns, who was playing pretty well.
“We all know he’s one of the finest players in the world, and when he’s on top of his game, he may be the best player in the world.” He was definitely against me.”
