ATP rankings: Following his victory at the Paris Masters, Holger Rune this week entered the top 10 in the ATP rankings.
The Danish professional announced the news on social media. He also published a graph that showed his steady ascent to highlight his recent rise in the ATP rankings, saying:
“Working hard pays off”
Only Carlos Alcaraz (18 years) and Rafael Nadal, two other active players, have achieved the feat at a younger age than the 19-year-old Rune (18 years). Rune made history by being the first Dane to reach the top 10 with his most recent rise in the rankings.
The adolescent, who rose from No. 25 to No. 18, merely entered the top 20 last week. But his victory in Paris has helped him climb the ladder more quickly. He was ranked 103rd as his season began.
He won his maiden championship in January at the Bavarian Open in Germany. He then added another title in October at the Stockholm Open, coupled with a second-place result in Basel. His most recent victory came at the Paris Masters when he triumphed over former World No. 1 Novak Djokovic.
In response to a user’s comment on his article, he said that perseverance was essential to his success and that he had made incremental improvements all year.
We frequently forget how much impact a tiny everyday improvement can make in a year, he added. “The 1-2% more effort in every practice is the key for me to do excellent,” he said.
In order to compete in the ATP Finals, Holger Rune will go to Turin.
Following Carlos Alacaraz’s withdrawal from the competition due to an abdominal injury, Holger Rune is now the first alternate for the ATP Finals.
The NextGen ATP Finals in Milan were originally where the Dane was supposed to make his debut. He did, however, become eligible to play as the first alternate in the ATP Finals after rising to the No. 10 position.
Rune withdrew from the NextGen ATP Finals and will now be playing in Turin instead, even though there is only one week between the two tournaments. The only time he and the second alternate, Hubert Hurkacz, will play is if one of the qualified players cancels their matches.
