2023 season: Rafael Nadal was seen during a training session playing a one-handed backhand in preparation for the start of the 2023 season.
The Spaniard, one of the best players of all time, has a variety of potent shots at his disposal that have assisted him in capturing 22 Grand Slam singles titles. He has one of the best two-handed backhands in the sport.
Recently, a video of him rehearsing a new weapon for his armoury appeared on Twitter. The Mallorcan aced the one-handed backhand despite having no prior experience with it, and it appeared that he may debut it to the courts in his 2023 season.
The most recent performance by Rafael Nadal took place on his exhibition tour of Latin America with fellow tennis player and World No. 3 Casper Ruud. Mexico served as the pair’s final trip after five bouts.
With victories in Buenos Aires (Argentina), Bogota (Colombia), Belo Horizonte (Brazil), and Mexico, the Spaniard won the five-match series 4-1, while Ruud only triumphed in Quito (Ecuador).
Rafael Nadal establishes objectives for 2023
Nadal stated that his primary objective for the 2023 season was to arrive at the key tournaments in “full physical form” after the completion of his Latin American tour.
“The ability to arrive at the key events in top physical shape is what’s most essential to me right now. I’m still having fun, and I still have professional aspirations that are exciting to me. I’m going to keep working toward them until my body or mind tells me to stop. That hasn’t happened as of yet, so let me continue,” said the Spaniard.
“I enjoy what I do, I enjoy competing on great platforms, and the support of the public has inspired me to keep going. From any form of a shot to mentality and professionalism, Rafa is an excellent teacher,” he went on to add.
Alongside fellow Spanish WTA player Paula Badosa, the 36-year-old is scheduled to represent Spain in the inaugural United Cup in Sydney in 2023. The Australian Open, which he won last year by outlasting Daniil Medvedev in a thrilling five-set match, will thereafter be played at Melbourne Park, where he will be the reigning champion.
