Manu Ginobili of the San Antonio Spurs is among the contenders for entry into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame this year.
Manu Ginobili, a four-time NBA champion who has spent his whole career with the Spurs, was one of 11 finalists revealed at an All-Star Weekend press conference on Friday.
Former All-Stars Michael Cooper, Tim Hardaway, and Marques Johnson, as well as NBA coach George Karl and WNBA stars Swin Cash and Lindsay Whalen, will be voted on for probable induction.
West Virginia coach Bob Huggins, as well as Old Dominion and WNBA coach Marianne Staley, former NBA referee Hugh Evans, and Texas high school coach Leta Andrews, are also nominated for induction.
A jury will vote on the finalists to choose this year’s class of inductees.
Ginobili, 44, announced his retirement from the NBA after the 2017-18 season. The Argentine forward was a vital player of the Spurs teams that won titles in 2003, 2005, 2006, and 2014, along with fellow Hall of Fame forward Tim Duncan and guard Tony Parker.
In 2004, he also assisted Argentina in winning an Olympic gold medal.
The 2022 Curt Gowdy Media Award will be given to Walt Frazier of the New York Knicks, writer Mechelle Voepel, and NBC executive Dick Ebersol, according to the Hall of Fame.
The class of 2022 for the Basketball Hall of Fame will be unveiled on April 2 in New Orleans at the men’s Final Four. On September 10, the enshrinement will take place in Springfield, Massachusetts.
