Boxing Fight: Adam Azim was devastated to learn that he would have to withdraw from his battle with Aram Fanyan on Friday.
Azim was supposed to headline at York Hall, but after one of his final sparring sessions, his left hand swelled up terribly.
Azim was unable to complete the match due to a serious infection.
“Everything was going swimmingly at the camp. I was looking powerful and sharp, and then something occurred in sparring. When I came out, my hand ballooned up,” Azim said to Sky Sports. “I couldn’t even spar because my hand was so bad.
“I had to withdraw because the doctor’s choice was for me not to fight.”
Azim, on the other hand, believes the match with the Ukrainian will be postponed. For the combat, he must be able to utilise his left hand. He also intends to knock Fanyan out with that hand when it happens.
“He’s definitely dangerous,” Azim stated about Fanyan. “He’s fired up to win.
“He’ll be trying to win for his country.” He’s also not someone to underestimate, thus he’s a good opponent.
“This was the most difficult fight of my career. I want to go into the fight completely prepared,” Azim continued. “I intend to enter the fight with both hands. “I want to give a fantastic performance.”
He must wait for medical results before setting a date for his next bout, which he hopes will be in August or September.
Despite having only one fight this year, he put in a great 10 rounds with Santos Reyes in February.
“I was grateful to get the 10 rounds in,” Azim explained. “In this game, it’s all about learning.
“I thought I paced the rounds really well, and the guy was tough. He has the ability to take a shot. I was pelting him with heavy shots, and he was just standing there taking it. He was as solid as a stone wall.”
He did, however, drop Reyes on his way to a shutout decision victory. “I was afraid he wouldn’t get back up. He got up on the nine-count,” Azim claimed.
