Boxing Live: When Ben Whittaker resumes play in Birmingham in May, he plans to continue where he left off.
The silver medalist from the Olympics made an electrifying professional debut last year but hasn’t boxed since August to allow a shoulder injury to heal completely.
Whittaker smiled and added, “Don’t worry, I’m back. I have no niggles; I feel fantastic. There are no longer any justifications because I finally listened to my body, did everything correctly, and had the appropriate people on board.
“I was performing in that way while hurt. Think of no injuries.”
He has been working out and is back to sparring as he gets ready to compete at the Resorts World Arena on May 6 against Pawel Stepien and Joshua Buatsi.
“I can’t wait to enter that place. This brief break, I believe, will improve my performance even more. I’ve realised how much I miss boxing because of it,” According to Whittaker, Sky Sports.
He claims that the experience has made him better.
You hear it frequently, but Whittaker remarked, “I’ve actually worked on stuff, my strength work’s come on, my technique is getting better, and my punch power feels even greater.
“Really, I’ve learnt something from it, and I hope I can demonstrate that side of myself when I reappear. That, in my opinion, is what you must accomplish in these brief moments. Make it a success.”
Whittaker, who is from the adjacent town of Darlaston, is looking forward to returning home for the Birmingham performance.
“It’s the reversal. I’m considering it a new debut,” he said. “I’ll make sure everyone is present in Birmingham, and the night will be fantastic. I’ll see to it that everyone benefits.”
In his second professional battle, Whittaker defeated Petar Nosic, a tough unbeaten opponent, and impressed with the same panache that earned him an Olympic silver medal in his first professional fight against Greg O’Neill.
But, he cautioned his competitors that they should go up against him now because, in his opinion, he will only get better.
“I’m just starting my career. I wasn’t put to the test. I haven’t been around much,” stated Whittaker.
“Thus, in their perspective, now is the time to grab me.”
