Boxing Live: Tommy Fury has said that Viddal Riley is not a big enough draw to secure a fight, but Riley has responded, claiming, “I have more pull than him.”
Fury, Tyson’s younger brother, is unbeaten in nine fights, most recently defeating American social media celebrity turned pro boxer Jake Paul by a split decision in a fight hosted in Saudi Arabia in February 2023.
A bout with Riley, a former boxing trainer and colleague of YouTube star KSI, has been proposed, but Fury has informed Sky Sports that he is not interested.
“With all due respect, Viddal fights at a much lower level than I do. Whatever you want to say about my opponents, I’m competing at the world championship level. I’m doing millions of pay-per-view purchases with all these big names,” Fury explained.
“I’m not going to be a fool and fight Viddal Riley in York Hall, am I?
“At the end of the day, with all due respect, he’s not a big enough draw.
“At the end of the day, who is Viddal outside of boxing? He isn’t actually anyone. He has little worldwide influence. He is unable to participate in any pay-per-view events.”
Riley, who is also unbeaten in nine fights, most recently defeating Anees Taj by TKO last Friday in London, responded to Sky Sports as well:
“Say he doesn’t want to fight if he doesn’t want to fight. He’s in a pickle: he’s chosen that side of things, and he’s getting paid handsomely for it. Just pretend you’re that man now, a crossover boxer.
“That’s it, Tommy. That’s all he has to do. All he has to say is, ‘You know what, I’m a crossover person now, I don’t really have any interest in the conventional road, and I’m not seeking to be a typical pro boxer,’ and I’ll let him go.”
