Boxing Rematch: Tommy Fury is open to a rematch with Jake Paul and claims Tyson Fury is not to fault for the cancellation of the Oleksandr Usyk fight.
The 23-year-old beat YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul in a split-decision fight on February 26 in Saudi Arabia, and Fury indicated he is open to a rematch on Soccer AM.
He stated: “I’m open to a rematch. I’ll fight him the next day. Is he interested? I’m not convinced. My next opponent will be bigger than Jake Paul.”
Tommy was also asked about his brother, after Tyson’s plans to fight Usyk for all four major heavyweight titles fell through, and he believes the fight will take place at some point.
“Having someone who is the best in the world, and in my opinion, the best to ever do it,” he went on to say.
“He [Tyson Fury] does not like Usyk right now.” Boxing is fraught with politics. The reason this bout will not take place has nothing to do with Tyson.
“He won’t back down from anyone, especially a cruiserweight who can’t do anything anyway. He’s far too little. Tyson is not at fault. All of these battles will occur, but it will take time.”
Tommy also stated that the Paul fight was challenging due to the 26-year-unconventional old’s fighting technique.
“That was difficult since he is a massive, powerful man, but I knew he couldn’t help me. Everyone can go in and fight,” He stated.
“It would be easier to battle a legitimately experienced fighter. Fighting men who are erratic and throw punches from numerous angles, have no idea what they’re doing, and it makes them awkward. It was a challenging task, but I won him over with my lovely science.
“It was really frustrating due to two setbacks and two cancelled battles. All that time it appeared to be my fault because I knew I could beat him.
“There was some pressure when everything was being prepared and said. During the night, I didn’t feel anything because it just grows too enormous at a certain point.”
