Boxing Live: Jake Paul has declared that he will battle former UFC fighter Nate Diaz in the boxing ring once more on August 5.
Paul will compete in the fight for the first time since losing to Tommy Fury in February in Dallas, Texas.
The fight will take place inside the same 185-pound weight limit that was set for Paul’s loss to Fury, which marked the former YouTuber’s first loss in the professional ranks and left him with a 6-1 record.
Diaz, who beat Conor McGregor in 2016 and was best known for it in the UFC, will be making his professional boxing debut.
Paul issued a statement in which he stated, “My last fight didn’t finish the way I wanted. Nonetheless, the outcome was the best thing that could have occurred to my dreams of being a professional boxer.”
“The world now perceives me as being weak, but all I am doing is becoming more focused than before.”
The 26-year-old American has been mentioned in connection with a rematch with Fury or a fight with fellow YouTuber turned professional boxer KSI, but finally chose to take on Diaz.
The following fight was supposed to be an easy one against KSI, but Paul said it wasn’t how he was created.
“Nate Diaz is regarded as one of the all-time great fighters, but he and his group have been spewing their rhetoric for far too long.”
With a victory over Tony Ferguson in September, Diaz fulfilled his contract with the UFC, leaving him with a 21-13 record in the most well-known promotion for mixed martial arts, but he claims he plans to fight again after meeting Paul.
“Paul is the biggest thing in boxing, aside from Canelo,” according to Diaz in a statement.
“My goal is to defeat that. So I’m returning to get my UFC belts because I’m the King of combat sports.
