Boxing Live: Olympic bronze medalist in boxing Karriss Artingstall is prepared to enter the professional ranks.
“She’s ferocious, she’s spiteful, she wants to fight,” says promoter Ben-Shalom, believing Artingstall possesses all the essential characteristics, even though the fighter herself recognises that her own method of exerting “smart pressure” makes her dangerous.
She’s someone to keep an eye on. This Saturday, the Olympic bronze medalist will compete in her third professional fight against the determined Linzi Buczynskyj, who has a 4-1 record.
They compete on the undercard of the Lawrence Okolie-David Light world title bout on Saturday.
Buczynskyj of Bolton has already fought for two 10-round Central Area titles and will pose new questions to Artingstall at this early stage of her professional career.
“Having these step-ups now will shape me into the fighter I need to be when I come to compete for a world title,” Artingstall explained to Sky Sports.
If Buczynskyj is a litmus test, Artingstall intends to pass with flying colours.
“I know my hand speed will be too rapid, my feet are better than hers, my punch power is better than hers, and I need that,” Artingstall said.
“The way I move around the ring, the way I slip shots. I don’t see how she outworks me in any of these areas.
“I know she’s coming to win, without disparaging her opponent. I understand that completing the task will be difficult for me.
“I’ll never underestimate anyone in a fight.
“I’ll always mentally prepare as if I’m competing against the best amateurs I’ve ever faced.
“I’ll tell myself that they’re just as good as them. That just gives me the boost I need to stay focused and train twice as hard as if I’m aiming for a world title.”
Artingstall’s last two opponents, Vaida Masiokaite and Marina Sakharov did not have winning records and were not considered to be as competitive as Buczynskyj.
“They were there, they had a go, they made it uncomfortable for me, but they weren’t there to outbox me. This Saturday’s opponent, I believe, is a bit more of a boxer,” Artingstall explained.
