Boxing News: As he trains for his fight with Rylan Charlton on Sunday, Adam Azim, who can make lightweight, has been sparring middleweights because of his heavy hitting.
“I’ve now fought a lot of middleweights. I have to spar with bigger individuals because I genuinely can’t find somebody my weight to fight,” he admitted to Sky Sports.
“In order for me to adapt to any style, Shane [McGuigan, his trainer] puts me in challenging rounds.
Because middleweights are large and come at you directly, it’s difficult to shut off from them. I think I can spar with anyone, and the gym has taught me a lot,” he added.
McGuigan had that in mind. He beats up on these middleweights because he is so much quicker than them, which is the problem. Since he makes three or four accurate shots. They’re not used to receiving five or six punches at once, according to his coach.
“It demonstrates Azim’s potential. He is quite unique. He is truly unique,” stated McGuigan. “It is simply the truth. He has never seemed out of his element to me. I’m going to try to locate that level. He can spar with middleweights who are good fighters and have belts, and he still controls them.”
He continued, “I don’t want to hurt him by going up even higher.” “After that, it’s just stupid, but he seems at ease in the ring.”
McGuigan isn’t prepared to limit Azim’s potential at this time.
“You can observe that in some boxers. Excellent vision; they know when to strike. He pays attention to my directions, which is important since as a trainer I need my fighters to follow my instructions. I actually get him to implement what I’m looking for, and that’s great about him,” he said. “If I teach them something, they have to be able to put it into practice.
“Fighters can be maximised. I’ve basically done that my entire career—taken a fighter on and helped them reach their full potential—and even world champions still have limitations. For Adam, however, there really isn’t.
“He is able to fight at all ranges. He is more effective in close combat. He has the ability to move forward and battle briefly if necessary. Though we haven’t needed to, it remains to be seen how tough he is. Despite my efforts, it hasn’t yet been tested.”
In his upcoming bout, Azim claims to have more to display. “Many people don’t know that I can fight either way; I can fight on the front foot or the back foot, and many people haven’t seen that capability yet,” he said. “Most people have seen me going forward, but they haven’t seen me go backfoot once,” he said.
