Boxing News: After their proposed bout in October fell through, Chris Eubank Jr. moved on from Conor Benn.
On January 21, Eubank will compete in his next bout against former world champion Liam Smith.
He won’t forgive Conor Benn for failing a drug test, though, and he also won’t forget it.
There is definitely no forgetting, according to Eubank. No, I don’t need to be thinking about forgiveness.
Eubank, who had the Benn fight called off three days prior to the scheduled battle, was taken aback.
It’s unbelievable but true, he claimed, “I was never informed about the first failed drugs test.” Nobody informed me.
If I had known he had previously failed a test, I would not have agreed to the fight in August, and by the time I did learn about it, it was too late. It was a terrible circumstance for myself, boxing, and the audience.
“I feel awful for the kid; he’s truly screwed up and will someday need to account for his wrongdoings. I am aware that he has been missing for a while,” Eubank continued.
“For whatever long, he was on Twitter and Instagram every single day, and now nobody knows where he is.”
Eubank thinks that the broader public won’t forget it easily either.
What has happened, he said, “has happened. Too many people believe that he cheated since the information has been out there for too long.
The only way he will be able to proceed is if he accepts it, the speaker continued.
“Even if it is later determined that he was mistaken and innocent, the public will still view him as guilty. Sadly, it is simply how things are in the world. Once you’ve been branded, it’s impossible to ever shake it.
Before his fight with Eubank Jr. was abruptly called off, Benn admitted he failed two drug tests in July and September, but he has vowed to prove his innocence.
A catchweight was scheduled to be used for that contest. Even after the match was cancelled, Eubank continued to descend below the middleweight limit to demonstrate his ability.
“Being aware that I wasn’t even going to fight while going through it made it less enjoyable. That made it even more agonising. However, I made weight because I promised to gain it “Eubank clarified.
He vowed to never repeat that behaviour. He will compete at 160 pounds on January 21 at Manchester’s AO Arena. Smith, a former super-welterweight world champion, will move up a division.
