Boxing News: Claressa Shields and her team have stated their wish to face Natasha Jonas and are prepared to start negotiations for a significant world title match.
Next confirmation from her promoter Dmitriy Salita that Shields has embraced the possibility of a fight against Jonas early in the following year, the American star may be on the verge of facing Britain’s undisputed world super-welterweight champion.
With a brilliant points victory over Savannah Marshall in October, Shields recovered her position as the undisputed middleweight champion. However, she is now thinking about going back to the 154-pound weight class, where she previously held all four titles.
Salita stated to Sky Sports that “our goal has always been to make the biggest bouts.”
“Another major event for women’s sport would be the Jonas fight.
We are highly interested in having the battle happen early in the following year.
After defeating Marie-Eve Dicaire by a resounding majority decision last month, Jonas added the IBF championship to her WBC and WBO sashes.
The Liverpudlian would be thrilled to square off against Shields or Katie Taylor again, two outstanding female boxing champions.
As he stated to Sky Sports: “There is no pressure on me; instead, it is all on Claressa or Katie. And I can determine who the GWOAT [Greatest Woman of All-Time] is because I was among the top two!
I weigh 154 pounds, which is not a big deal. I absolutely wouldn’t increase my weight to 160 pounds. Shields has gained 154 pounds. She has stated that she would return to earth and that she wants to reclaim the Ring belt title.
“That’s one of the better possibilities. She makes a great champion. She performed admirably against Savannah [Marshall] in a match that was arguably one of the best of her career. I’m not Savannah, though.
Marshall has also stated that she would like to face Shields again so she may exact revenge for the one defeat she has ever suffered in professional competition.
