Boxing News: Jake Paul was supposed to fight Hasim Rahman Jr.
Paul would have faced him as his first opponent with a boxing background. Instead, the contest was postponed due to disagreement over the weight limit.
This past weekend, Paul boxed Anderson Silva, a 47-year-old former MMA fighter, and won the eight-round contest.
It wouldn’t be safe in my camp’s or my eyes to go as low as they wanted me to, Rahman Jr. said in an interview with Sky Sports. “He wanted me to come down to 200lbs. The commission pushed him to give me an extra five pounds.”
They refused to move. They never truly desired to pick a fight—at least not one that would be fair.
“I don’t think he genuinely wants to fight me in a fair, competitive match in the ring. I’ve obviously moved past that; I’m not clinging to it.
Rahman believes that Paul’s fight with him will never be rescheduled, at least not until Logan Paul, Paul’s brother, has been boxed.
“I don’t believe he will develop courage overnight. Maybe you’ll see me and Logan before you see me and Jake since his brother has been chatting,” Rahman remarked.
He thinks Paul gets much more attention from the business than his sporting prowess warrants.
“Jake’s actions have nothing to do with his boxing abilities. His media character is reflected in it “Rahman remarked.
“It has nothing to do with his abilities. He didn’t come this far because he is as skilled as Shakur Stevenson or Devin Haney; rather, he did so because many people are interested in watching him fight. I’m done now.
“He’s not there, and I find it difficult to imagine him ever reaching that point.
He continued, “He’s abusing, using, and boxing.” “He’s not out here genuinely changing the sport in terms of bringing a fresh perspective to impact boxing,” someone said.
