Boxing News: According to Otto Wallin’s promoter Dmitriy Salita, the Swedish fighter is “keeping sharp” in preparation for a prospective matchup with Anthony Joshua, who “must show that he is still world-class.”
Wallin is “in play” for a potential matchup with the former undisputed world heavyweight champion in 2023, according to Salita, who has informed Sky Sports that Joshua has not yet decided who will be his next opponent.
The New York-based southpaw is maintaining top form during the holiday season while he waits for information on a marquee fight.
Over the holiday season, Otto will continue to train hard, according to Salita, who spoke to Sky Sports.
“A fight against Anthony Joshua is the holiday gift he wants to give the fans.”
Tyson Fury’s sole loss on record, a gory points victory for the British boxer in 2019, is the only opponent to outlast him in recent years.
Salita said, “[Promoter] Eddie (Hearn) recently said that Joshua faced tougher opposition than Tyson. “Otto delivered more blows to Tyson than Deontay Wilder and Wladimir Klitschko combined, according to the statistics.
Active fighters are assessed based on their activity. Both Otto and Joshua want to compete against Tyson.
“Joshua needs to demonstrate that he is still a world-class fighter after two losses [to Oleksandr Usyk] in order for Eddie to discuss the names that he has been mentioning.
“Neither guy could ask for a better fight,”
Could the Dubois fight tempt AJ?
Another possibility for Joshua would be to compete in Britain against Daniel Dubois for a portion of the WBA heavyweight championship.
Dubois’s trainer Shane McGuigan stated to Sky Sports: “Why not if we can get that fight with [Anthony Joshua]? Definitely.
“Getting the appropriate individuals at the right moment is key. Given his lack of experience and potential perception that [Dubois’] confidence may be low, AJ may believe he is hiring Daniel at the ideal time.”
