ODI Match: After the government’s opposition revealed plans for a protest that could shut down the nation’s capital on the scheduled day, the Bangladesh Cricket Board decided to move a one-day international against India from Dhaka to another location. India will begin their first trip to Bangladesh since 2015 the following week with a one-day international series starting on December 4. Originally, all three games were supposed to be played in Dhaka.
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) rally, which is anticipated to draw tens of thousands to the streets of Dhaka, will now be avoided by moving the third game of the series on December 10 to the coastal city of Chittagong.
Since last month, the BNP has organised a number of sizable protests across the nation in an effort to compel the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s administration.
“One Test was originally supposed to be held at Chittagong. We believed that an ODI should also be played there “Jalal Yunus, the operations manager for the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), spoke to AFP on Wednesday.
Jalal declined to respond to a question about whether the protest was the reason for the last-minute venue change, but the newspaper New Age reported that the board decided to forgo the rally, citing an unnamed BCB official.
India will also play two Test matches in Bangladesh, one in Chittagong from December 14–18 and the other in Dhaka from December 22–26.
