Cricket News: In spite of his anxiety during the frantic run chase, India’s acting captain KL Rahul stated he was optimistic the batsmen will succeed in finishing the job in the second Test in Mirpur, Dhaka.
Chasing 145, Bangladesh had India on the ropes at 74/7 when an unbroken 71-run eighth-wicket stand between Shreyas Iyer (29*) and Ravichandran Ashwin (42*) enabled the guests to claim a famous three-wicket victory and seal the series 2-0.
There is always faith, yet since we are all human, there were nerves: KL Rahul
“You just put your trust in the middlemen. There is always faith, yet we all have nerves because we are only human. But we trusted the batsmen out,” Rahul remarked at the awards ceremony following the game.”
“Today, Ashwin and Shreyas handled it effortlessly and elegantly. Congratulations on helping India win. We always assumed it would be a struggle and believed we had to toil and struggle for runs.”
“With the new ball, it was more difficult. More wickets were lost than we would have wanted. Although we made mistakes, we will try to learn from them and perhaps perform better if a circumstance like this occurs again in the future. Happy with the depth of our bowling over the past 6 to 7 years,” he continued.
Even Rahul’s rival Shakib Al Hasan praised Ravichandran Ashwin and Shreyas Iyer for their tenacity and perseverance. He did, however, acknowledge that Bangladesh could have won the match with one more wicket.
“Everyone contributed, and we performed well here. Under pressure, Shreyas and Ashwin batted effectively. One more wicket was required. We have a lot of ifs and buts, but we’re satisfied with how we fought,” Shakib added.
Iyer and Ashwin made sure that there were no further difficulties for India after they were reduced to 74/7 by using a methodical approach to counteract the deadly Bangladesh spinners.
