WTC Final Squad: In order to be available for the World Test Championship 2023 final squad selection, Shreyas Iyer has chosen to postpone his back surgery. He arrived at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore on March 29 to make a speedy recovery before the World Tennis Championship final, which will take place at The Oval in London from June 7 to 11.
During the fourth Test match against Australia in Ahmedabad, the 28-year-old batter reported lower back soreness and was later declared ineligible for play. Also, he was disqualified from the ODIs against Australia and is most certainly going to be absent from the forthcoming Indian Premier League in 2023.
The NCA urged the player to postpone surgery last week in order to be available for the important WTC final. He would have missed the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 and six months of recovery time due to the surgery.
According to Cricbuzz, the player will now receive injections for his back issues on March 30. The NCA’s medical experts will monitor any additional changes.
“He has met the expert and NCA representatives. Everyone is in agreement that the operation can be delayed. He would heed the counsel of the experts “Cricbuzz cited a source close to Shreyas as saying.
IPL 2023: Will Shreyas Iyer appear in a few games?
Moreover, Shreyas’ injury has made it more difficult for him to compete in the next IPL 2023. Nitish Rana has already been chosen by Kolkata Knight Riders to take Iyer’s place as team captain. But, there is currently a slim chance that he will show up to play a few games in the tournament’s later rounds. In a news conference on March 28, KKR’s new head coach Chandrakant Pandit also alluded to Iyer’s likely participation.
“Because Shreyas is significant, his absence will have an impact; however, this is very regrettable. We are hopeful Shreyas would return very soon since the team will benefit much from it,” said Chandrakant Pandit.
Even though Shreyas led KKR in runs scored throughout the IPL 2022, the team struggled to produce results under his management. On April 1, 2023, the two-time champions take on Punjab Kings in their first IPL 2023 match of the year at Mohali’s PCA IS Bindra Stadium.
