Cricket News: While the Kolkata Knight Riders captain is set to miss the first rounds of IPL 2023, surgery will completely rule out his inclusion in the forthcoming competition.
Indian middle-order hitting ace According to the most recent report from Cricbuzz, Shreyas Iyer, who is dealing with a back problem, has decided against surgery for the time being. While the Kolkata Knight Riders captain is slated to miss the opening rounds of IPL 2023, surgery will fully rule out his inclusion in the forthcoming competition, thereby throwing questions on his participation in the WTC final, which is planned to be played from June 7, 2023.
Due to a back ailment, Shreyas Iyer missed India’s first Test against Australia but made a comeback for the next three games of the series. The 28-year-old did not get out to bat, though, during the fourth Test in Ahmedabad because of to back injury. He was also unable to play in the just-finished ODI series due to the recurrence of his back problem.
According to reports, the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru counselled the batsman against having surgery because he would end up missing the forthcoming 50-over World Cup. While it currently appears unlikely that he will play in the 2019 IPL season, which is set to begin on March 31, the board is eager to treat his ailment without the need for surgery.
According to Cricbuzz, the 28-year-old is currently in Mumbai after he was instructed to rest for 10 days by Mumbai-based spine specialist Dr. Abhay Nene before taking any decision on his surgery. The ODI World Cup will take place later in October and November 2023, thus the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is keeping an eye on his position.
Nevertheless, Iyer’s absence was noticed by the Indian team in the just concluded ODI series against Australia as their stronghold on the bilateral series at home was snapped by the Aussies. Suryakumar Yadav, who had replaced the injured star in the lineup, lost to three successive golden ducks in the three-match series.
