Cricket News: Shikhar Dhawan’s group At the Hagley Oval in Christchurch, India was routed for 219 against the hosts New Zealand in the first innings. With the exception of Shreyas Iyer and Washington Sundar, the remainder of the batting lineup simply didn’t perform well enough for the team.
Rishabh Pant, a performer who has drawn a lot of criticism for his work, was one of them. The southpaw was dismissed by Daryl Mitchell after managing just 10 runs off of 16 balls. However, one of the events that attracted attention before the game was Pant’s response to a query from commentator Harsha Bhogle.
The announcer compared him to the legendary Indian player Virender Sehwag and said that his red-ball stats were superior to those of the other two forms. When the keeper-batter did not hold back with a very appropriate retort, chaos ensued.

A record is only a number, sir. My white-ball statistics aren’t all that horrible, I guess. Right now, a comparison is meaningless because I am only 24–25 years old. You can possibly compare me when I’m 30-32 if you want to. I don’t get the comparison before that, Pant said on Prime Video ahead of the competition.
Many supporters were shocked by his response to Bhogle since they felt the player was somewhat “arrogant” and that his recent performances did not reflect well on the field. Additionally, a lot of supporters have questioned Sanju Samson’s removal, who has recently displayed excellent bat control.
The third and final ODI ended in a tie, therefore giving the hosts New Zealand a 1-0 series victory. The path to the ICC 2023 Cricket World Cup has begun, therefore the Men in Blue management will need to go back to the drawing board and come up with some solid ideas for their starting XI. Team India’s next challenge is to take on Bangladesh in the Test and ODI series that will begin in December.
Here is how Twitter reacted to Rishabh Pant’s ‘white-ball’ remark-
Just saw the Harsha Bhogle bit with Rishabh Pant. Wow, Pant seem to have lost his cool when Harsha Bhogle just said that his Test record is the best as compared to other formats. #INDvNZ #RishabhPant
