Cricket News: This method of termination has long been the subject of heated debate and is just recently coming under “legal” consideration.
Although Arjun Tendulkar has stated that he is wholly in favour of run-out at the non-end, the striker’s he personally would not participate. Such run-outs are no longer considered “unfair play” after the MCC changed the cricket rulebook last year, making them a legal method of dismissal. The question of whether or not these dismissals are in keeping with the “spirit of the game” is still up for dispute.
“I wholeheartedly support mankading. The law states it. I disagree with those who claim it goes against the spirit of the game,” Arjun said to CricketNext.com.
The 23-year-old clarified that he won’t be able to execute such a dismissal since stopping to remove the bails would slow down his bowling run-up.
“I personally won’t do that since I can’t pause during my run-up and remove the bails. I won’t waste my energy on it since it requires too much work, but if someone does it, I support it,” Arjun added.
Running the non-strikers has been a topic of discussion recently, especially in light of the MCC rule change. Performing a run out from the non-end strikers has previously garnered accolades and drawn criticism from people like Ravichandran Ashwin and Deepti Sharma.
While Dasun Shanaka was batting against India in the first ODI of the recent series, Mohammed Shami ran him out at the non-end striker’s for backing up too far, and India captain Rohit Sharma later retracted an appeal for such a run-out.
In a BBL game earlier this month, Australia’s Adam Zampa attempted to run out Tom Rogers at the non-end. striker’s The third umpire, however, ruled that the hitter was not out since Zampa had completed his motion before running Rogers out.
