Cricket Live: Pragyan Ojha, a former spinner for India, has backed Arjun Tendulkar, who is now playing for the Mumbai Indians in the 2017 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. In four games for the team, the 23-year-old all-rounder has taken three wickets thus far.
Ojha commended Arjun for the work he did for MI and issued a challenge to those who had criticised him. According to him, the youngster should be judged as a person who has entered a tournament, not as the son of a great athlete like Sachin Tendulkar. He did concede, though, that Arjun needs to improve and that the criticism levelled against him is unwarranted.
“I was speaking to Zaheer Khan the other day, and he said that because of Arjun’s passion, you had to drag him out of the nets. He must be evaluated on an individual basis, not as the progeny of a legend. He needs to get better, of course,” Ojha said in a recent conversation with JioCinema.
“You need to have as many skills as possible to sustain in these kinds of tournaments, and further go and play a better level of cricket,” he continued. “T20 cricket continues to improve.”

Ojha continued by saying that Arjun had shown how perseverance and hard effort can pay off. He observed that it is challenging to bowl the final two innings, particularly if it is your second game. Notably, the teenager’s two overs against Gujarat Titans (GT) saw him surrender only nine runs, and analysts have taken notice of his propensity for hitting yorkers.
“He has, in my opinion, demonstrated what perseverance and hard work can do as a young youngster who is only participating in his second game. It’s difficult to bowl those overs when you’re only in your second game. Whatever he was trying to do was working out for him. He succeeded in his goal of getting the ball to swing into the hitter. He attempted to bowl yorkers, and he was successful at doing so as well. He wants to put in a lot of effort and has the necessary skills and temperament,” according to Ojha.
