CSK vs RR: The ongoing mega cricket carnival has seen a number of nail-biting contests in recent games, and yesterday’s game was no different. Sanju Samson, the captain of Rajasthan Royals (RR), was fined on Wednesday, April 12 during their IPL match against Chennai Super Kings for failing to maintain the over-rate (CSK). Yet RR defeated the four-time champs by three runs in what ended up being a nail-biter. With six points after winning three of the four games, RR is currently in first place in the IPL 2023 points standings.
Samson received a 12 lakh rupee fine for maintaining a slow overrate throughout the game. When a fielding side is unable to complete its 20 overs within the allotted time, it has a slow over rate. An IPL team is required to bowl 20 overs in 90 minutes, which includes an 85-minute playing period and a five-minute session for two 150-second strategic timeouts. For those who are unfamiliar, this time frame is divided into two 90-second halves.
IPL media advisory read “Captain Sanju Samson was fined Rs 12 lakhs as it was the team’s first breach of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences.”
Faf du Plessis, the captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), is notable for being the season’s first captain to get a slow overrate penalty. After failing to begin the last over before the deadline, the South African was penalised INR 12 lakh and was compelled to insert an additional fielder within the circle during the match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 10. In the end, LSG played brilliantly to overcome RCB by one wicket in a thrilling final ball.
In an exciting conclusion, Rajasthan Royals defeated Chennai Super Kings in their own stadium.
On Wednesday, Sandeep Sharma’s amazing final over helped RR defeat the four-time IPL winners with the final ball. With Sandeep and Adam Zampa, each taking one wicket, and Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal both taking two, CSK were reduced to 172 for 6 when chasing a score of 176.
Earlier, Rajasthan Royals recorded a total of 175 for 8 as their opener Jos Buttler scored 52 runs off 36 balls. His knock featured one boundary and three maximums. For CSK, Moeen Ali took one wicket, along with two each from Jadeja, Akash Singh, and Tushar Deshpande.
