The Rohit Sharma-led Indian team is expected to host Australia in a three-match T20I series in September before departing for the T20 World Cup in October, which will be held in Australia.
“Australia will play a handful of white ball series with home games against Zimbabwe, New Zealand, West Indies, and England coming to either side of three T20s in India in September,” according to a report on foxsports.com.au.
The series will be India’s fourth T20I match after the Indian Premier League (IPL) concludes in 2022 and before the T20 World Cup. Following the IPL final on May 29, India will play South Africa in a five-match T20I series at home from June 9 to 19, followed by a two-T20I visit of Ireland.
The rescheduled fifth and final Test from the 2021 tour, which was postponed last year due to a Covid-19 outbreak in the Indian camp, will take place on July 1 in England. The ‘Men in Blue’ will then face England in a white-ball series that will include three T20s and as many ODIs.
In a nutshell, the Australia series will aid the Indian team’s preparation for the showpiece event, which will take place in Australia in October and November this year. In the previous edition of the event, held in the United Arab Emirates in 2021, India was eliminated in the group stage.
In February and March of next year, Australia will tour India for four Tests.
