IPL 2023: Despite losing their skipper KL Rahul earlier in the competition, Lucknow Super Giants continued their outstanding performance in IPL 2023 on Tuesday, May 16, defeating Mumbai Indians by five runs in Lucknow. LSG scored a respectable total of 177/3 in their allotted 20 overs after being given the opportunity to bat first on the slow Lucknow surface. The remarkable performance by Marcus Stoinis, who struck 89* off 47 balls, was a significant factor in determining the course of LSG’s innings.
In response, MI were held to 172/5 in their second innings as Mohsin Khan bowled a superb final over and held off 10 runs (with 11 runs still needed) to enable his team to win the match. After LSG triumphed, Stoinis was named “Player of the Match” for his outstanding performance while Mohsin was hailed for his valiant efforts in the decisive over.
“Yes, this is wonderful for Mohsin. For him to come out there and defend a total like that after being injured for a year was fantastic,” Stoinis remarked during the post-game presentation.
In the upcoming IPL 2023, Khan made a notable comeback to professional cricket after being forced to miss games owing to a shoulder injury. He has only played three games so far this season and was also unable to compete in the first half of the competition. The left-arm seamer reflected on his difficult experience after his injury and claimed that he had given up hope of ever playing cricket again after his exploits in the penultimate over against MI.
“It was a very trying period, and at one point I had given up on playing cricket since I couldn’t even raise my hand, much less bowl. Since I couldn’t straighten [my hand], my physiotherapist assisted me. It was frightening since the doctor had warned that if I was even one more month late, they could have had to amputate my hand. My artery and nerve were both stopped, which was kind of unusual,” Khan told Star Sports.
