Live Cricket News: Pat Cummins, a pacer, has been named the nation’s new ODI captain, Cricket Australia said on Tuesday. Aaron Finch withdrew from 50-over cricket last month, therefore Cummins has been given the reins of the ODI team. The Test team is likewise under the pacer’s direction. In a formal media release, Cricket Australia claimed that the “Cricket Australia Board backed Cummins to become Australia’s 27th ODI captain, replacing Aaron Finch who withdrew from the game last month.”
After being named the new ODI captain, Cummins said, “I have greatly loved playing under Finchy and have learned an enormous amount from his leadership. They are massive shoes to fill although we are extremely lucky to have a one-day group with a huge amount of experience.
“We are incredibly lucky to have a number of high-quality leaders and senior players across all forms,” said Ben Oliver, EGM of High Performance and National Teams at Cricket Australia.
The Board and Selectors concur that Pat is the best candidate to coach the ODI team for the upcoming season, which includes the 2023 World Cup.
“Pat has done a wonderful job since taking up the captaincy of the Test side,” said George Bailey, chair of the selectors, “and we look forward to his guiding the one-day team to the 2023 World Cup in India.”
