Asia Cup 2023: Najam Sethi, the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), claimed that the organisation could lose almost US$3 million in revenue if Pakistan did not take part in the 2023 Asia Cup. The match between India and Pakistan is anticipated to generate 80% of the money needed to run the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), according to the PCB chairman.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) declared that they would not take part in the competition if it were hosted entirely in Pakistan due to security concerns, hence Pakistan’s hosting of the continental championship is not yet set. Incidentally, the occasion is scheduled for the first part of September.
Afterwards, Sethi agreed with the BCCI’s request for a hybrid format for hosting the Asia Cup, in which India’s matches would be played in a different nation. He declared that Pakistan will not take part in the tournament if it lost its hosting rights. He added that it was a matter of principle and that Pakistan was prepared to bear the financial cost.
Sethi stated, “We have made it very plain that we would not accept any other schedule and will not participate unless the Asia Cup is organised on a hybrid basis, as we have proposed, with Pakistan hosting the remaining games at home and India playing its matches at an offshore venue.
India doesn’t worry about security, according to Sethi
Nazam Sethi continued by stating that there was no security reason for India to avoid playing in Pakistan and that Pakistan had requested India to give written documentation if their national government had forbidden them from doing so. He continued by saying that since nations like Australia, England, and New Zealand had no issues playing in Pakistan, India also shouldn’t have any issues.
“Our ability to host won’t be taken away. Security is no longer an excuse for them, and we’ve requested them to provide formal documentation from their government proving that they have permission to play in Pakistan. There should be no security concerns for India to tour Pakistan when all other teams, including Australia, England, and New Zealand, are playing there without any hassles,” he said.
