RR vs CSK: On Thursday, April 27, the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur opened the Indian Premier League 2023 matchup between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR). After winning the toss, RR captain Sanju Samson decided to bat first. With his power hitting, the young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal once more shone as RR set a 203-run goal for the visitors.
MS Dhoni, the renowned captain of CSK and also known as “captain cool,” rarely loses his composure. However, a singular instance of this kind happened during Rajasthan’s first innings of batting. The RR openers gave the home team a strong start, as RR finished their batting powerplay with a score of 64/0. Building on the strong foundation, the former Indian captain was spotted losing his composure and reacting angrily as the home team advanced thanks to their strong run after the CSK fielders’ subpar performance.
RR is propelled by Yashasvi Jaiswal to surpass 200 runs in the first innings.
Returning to the game, Jaiswal produced a 50-run partnership with opening partner Jos Buttler, scoring a scorching half-century. The 21-year-old batsman needed just 26 balls to reach his third half-century of the current season. Before being bowled by Tushar Deshpande, he scored 77 runs off just 43 balls to help RR reach 202 in 20 overs. He hit eight boundaries and four sixes during his knock.
Jaiswal had previously avoided a DRS call from the CSK skipper during the fourth over of RR’s inning. The batter attempted to sweep a delivery but was unsuccessful and the pitch made contact with his pads. When Dhoni asked the umpire to review it, it was discovered that the ball had been pitched outside of the leg stump.
Buttler was dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja in the ninth over, giving CSK their first success. However, Deshpande’s heroics in the 14th over, when the 27-year-old struck twice to get rid of veteran Jaiswal and captain Sanju Samson, put an end to RR’s onslaught. Shimron Hetmyer was later dismissed by Maheesh Theekshana on the first ball of the seventh over, greatly reducing RR’s hopes of scoring a greater total than they ultimately did.
In the last over, delivered by Matheesha Pathirana, Dhruv Jurel (34 off 15) maintained the strike and hit a six and a four each. However, MS Dhoni’s superb throw from behind the stumps ended Jurel’s impressive performance, as RR ultimately finished their stay on 202/5.
