WPL: Following the Women’s Premier League’s tremendous success in its inaugural season, the BCCI is currently developing additional ideas and methods to broaden the tournament’s appeal.
In an effort to provide competition for cricket fans across the nation, the BCCI is also considering using the home-and-away format in the WPL. Surprisingly, the tournament’s first season, which was immensely successful, was only held at two Mumbai sites.
By having home venues, clubs would be able to grow their fan bases and further increase the IPL’s already blossoming reputation. This was stressed by the IPL Chairman.
Dhumal has also made it clear that the number of teams will remain constant at five for the ensuing three years. He was careful to emphasise that, although it won’t happen in the next three years, BCCI hopes to expand the competition and include more teams soon. An option for the time slot must also be chosen in order to ensure that the WPL operates smoothly the next year.
“The first step is half the battle. This has been an excellent beginning for WPL, and things can only get better from here. Although there are currently five teams, given the player pool that will be available in the upcoming years, there is room for more teams in the future,” Dhumal said.
“We are hoping for more teams, but for the next three seasons, there will only be five.” We will analyse the home and away format, determine which time window is accessible in light of India’s international obligations, and make a decision, he continued. From the standpoint of fan contact, it is essential that we employ a home-and-away model,” Dhumal said PTI, according to India Today.
The first season has been “a terrific ride so far,” according to Dhumal.
Dhumal acknowledged that the league’s inaugural season was a success, but he also said that it was one of the most challenging projects he had ever taken on. The biggest challenges came right before the Women’s T20 World Cup. As a result, the BCCI had a very small window of time to deal with, which it did.
“The window of time we had to launch the WPL made for a wonderful journey so far, but it was also very challenging. We are delighted with the course that things have taken. We did not have much of a window in agreement because the World Cup was going on at the time and the girls had only about a week to return and start,” explained Dhumal.
