WPL: Jay Shah, the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has expressed his unwavering belief that the inaugural Women’s Premier League will not only be a huge success but will also usher in a significant shift in women’s cricket.
The Women’s Premier League (WPL) will play its eagerly anticipated debut season from March 4 to March 26 in Mumbai. All of the games will take place at the Brabourne Stadium and the DY Patil Stadium, with the season’s first game between the Gujarat Giants and a team owned by the Mumbai Indians anticipated.
Jay Shah views WPL as a first step towards revolution.
The BCCI secretary was quoted by NDTVSports as saying that “The WPL will create a template for other sports to follow suit.”
Shah could hardly contain his excitement as he continued, saying that the BCCI was extremely proud and happy to have not only planned but also followed through and made sure the WPL was actually carried out well. As a result, the BCCI has taken it upon itself to establish a model in the sporting world for other boards to follow.
Additionally, he appeared to be extremely certain that the WPL would fundamentally alter how people think about and watch women’s cricket and that aspiring female cricketers would not have any trouble realising their dreams on the biggest platform.
“The WPL will transform the way we perceive women’s cricket. The great success of the WPL auction has provided young aspiring cricketers with the chance to take centre stage on a worldwide level in addition to giving many potential talents the chance to display their skills on the big platform” Shah said.
“The response from fans worldwide has been extraordinarily positive, and as the league develops, this will only increase. We observed what transpired with the men’s IPL and the rise of other sports leagues following 2008. The WPL will guarantee that women’s multi-genre sport grows, “The secretary of the BCCI stated.
Shah said that the WPL has already grown to be one of the biggest sporting leagues in the world before a single match had even been played, demonstrating the power of these competitions to pave the way for future competitions.
“The WPL is the biggest league in sports without ever bowling a ball. The WPL will only strengthen the environment for women’s cricket, which is already well on its way to becoming a recognised sport. The WPL’s initial reception has undoubtedly shown how much potential the league has to become the biggest domestic athletic event for women,” Shah came to an end.
