WTC Final: India is currently losing the WTC Final 2023 match against Australia at London’s Oval. With 22 overs remaining in the third session, the Rohit Sharma-led team is in trouble at 88/4. Ajinkya Rahane and Ravindra Jadeja are on the crease, while players like Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Virat Kohli have all returned to the hut.
Ajinkya Rahane had a reprieve during the third session of the day after being declared out by Pat Cummins on the pitch. The ball, however, turned out to be an unlawful delivery because Cummins had overstepped, according to the 35-year-old’s analysis of the ruling. Rahane completed his innings when the judgement was reversed.
Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill looked sharp early on in the innings, putting up 23 runs in the first five overs. However, as soon as India’s skipper Pat Cummins caught his Indian rival Rohit Sharma in front of the stumps, the pendulum rapidly swung back in Australia’s favour.
In the very next over, Gill made the same mistake as his skipper, losing his stumps after misjudging an approaching delivery from Scott Boland, leaving India on 30/2. Similar to how Cheteshwar Pujara left, he left an oncoming delivery from Cameron Green.
When Virat Kohli edged a wicked, bouncing delivery from Mitchell Starc straight to Steve Smith at second slip, leaving India reeling at 71/4, Australia had caught the big fish.
India’s preferred bowler was Mohammed Siraj.
Australian batsmen Smith (121) and Travis Head (163) both scored brilliant hundreds earlier in the first innings, helping their team to a huge total of 469. Australia was in trouble at 76/3 in the second session when the pair put together a huge 285-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Mohammed Siraj, who bowled for India and had a stint of (4/108) in 28.3 overs, was the bowler of choice. Mohammed Shami (2/122) and Shardul Thakur (2/83) both claimed two wickets.
