After 25 years and 1097 matches his debut as a manager, it was finally time for David Moyes on Wednesday. The Scot finally won his first major prize. However, he has won the Community Shield and the Football League Second Division before. He has also won the Scottish Premiership with Celtic as a player.
First prize for Moyes after 1097 games
“This is fantastic,” Moyes commented on BT Sport ‘s camera. “I’ve had a long football career and you don’t get moments like this very often. This is a great moment for us.’
Afterwards, Moyes (60) fell into his father’s arms. “You don’t often experience these moments as a manager. This is another step towards further progress for West Ham. It’s a brilliant club in East London doing a fantastic job in the community. It’s a great family club. It keeps getting better and stronger,” he added.
Jarrod Bowen became the celebrated man by settling the case for Fiorentina in the last minute. “Of course I dreamed of scoring, but to score the winner in the last minute…” Bowen stammered. “It’s something you always want to do. To do it for these fans. I thought I was going to cry. I’m just happy.”
Zaha can choose: CL football or the big money in Ronaldo’s team
Speaking of Moyes, his former student, Wilfried Zaha could become the next player to leave Europe for Saudi Arabia. The Crystal Palace attacker has received a lucrative offer from Al-Nassr, according to Sky Sports, to become a teammate of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Thirty-year-old Zaha has an expiring contract with Palace and is therefore a sought-after player. According to English reports, the attacker is in the interest of Atlético Madrid and three other Champions League clubs, but he can also opt for the big money in the Middle East.
Zaha has to make do with less than the real stars. Ronaldo reportedly receives more than 120 million euros from Al-Nassr, which is willing to pay Zaha 52 million euros over three years. That amounts to an annual salary of more than seventeen million euros: an amount that the other interested clubs simply cannot or do not want to cough up.
In Saudi Arabia, Zaha must help make the competition stronger. In addition to Al-Nassr, Al-Ittihad is also busy bringing in European top players: Karim Benzema has already been signed and N’Golo Kanté seems to follow. Lionel Messi was in the picture at Al-Hilal, but the Argentinian is said to be heading to the United States.
