After long negotiations, an agreement with Marcus Rashford on a new contract seems close. The purchases are still pending, but there is still good news for Erik ten Hag at Manchester United.
United reach agreement with Rashford, Chelsea reject offer for Mount
Talks with Rashford about extending his contract, which expires next year, have been going on for months. In the absence of an agreement, United would have been more or less obliged to sell the 25-year-old attacker this summer, but that scenario – which Ten Hag did not fear – can in all probability be dismissed.
The Athletic reports on Wednesday afternoon that Rashford is approaching an agreement with United on a new contract, which will make him one of the top earners in the selection with a weekly salary of reportedly €400,000. It fits the new status of the Englishman, who has emerged as an important player under Ten Hag.
So where Rashford will stay, there is still no news on David de Gea’s future. The 32-year-old goalkeeper is in talks with United about a new contract, but there are growing doubts about the Spaniard staying on. De Gea was not always reliable and playing along is not his strong point.
André Onana is now emphatically associated with United by all major Italian sports newspapers. A bid for the former Ajax goalkeeper, who already worked with Ten Hag in Amsterdam, is said to be in the works. Internazionale would ask sixty million euros for Onana, who came over from Ajax on a transfer-free basis last year.
Meanwhile, The Red Devils are still busy signing Mason Mount. The Athletic reports on Wednesday afternoon that Chelsea has received an improved offer worth 58 million euros. The Blues reportedly want about a million euros more for the English midfielder, whose contract expires in 2024.
Striker issue
And then there is the search for a new striker. Several names are doing the rounds for that position. Harry Kane was the top candidate, but Tottenham Hotspur don’t seem to want to sell him to a competitor. Rasmus Højlund (Atalanta Bergamo), Randal Kolo Muani (Eintracht Frankfurt) and Victor Osimhen (Napoli) are also mentioned.
Whoever the choice falls on, in all cases United is expected to pay the top price. In that respect, it is desirable for Ten Hag and associates that the acquisition be completed as soon as possible. Rio Ferdinand claimed despite a breakthrough, but little has been heard since and the club is still in the hands of the Glazers.
