Trent Alexander-Arnold’s new role has been receiving praise in England since he plays more from midfield. The Englishman was accurate for Liverpool on Monday evening in the big victory over Leicester City and is making a comeback.
England impressed by Liverpool revelation
There are few people who doubt Alexander-Arnold’s footballing abilities. On the other hand, his defensive qualities always remain a point of attention. That is why he has often been criticized in recent years, but now that his trainer Jürgen Klopp has given him a new role, Alexander-Arnold is dealing with the poor start to the season.
“He’s a key player, but has been a key player for four or five years,” said Sky Sports analyst Gary Neville. “His ability on the ball and his contribution to Liverpool’s attacking play is truly second to none. I’ve never seen a fullback with so much influence on a team.”
Neville hopes that the Liverpool player will also take steps defensively. He said, “He has those games where he goes one-on-one a lot and doesn’t do the basic things well. He could be one of the best full-backs ever and he still can. He’s not even in the England national team. The player we saw tonight, who was all over the field, is not going to be able to become a permanent fixture for England.”
“He has to put the pressure on Reece James, Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier to get there. But his skills are special. Jürgen Klopp finds a way to fit him in. He adjusts his team to allow Alexander-Arnold to play. He now has to make sure that he can also handle those few difficult competitions a year,” he added.
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher is also impressed by Alexander-Arnold’s resurrection. “I see a player who radiates energy again. Sometimes you wonder if players are giving their all. He seems delighted with his midfield position. He seems faster and more energetic, like he’s completely revived. He’s a revelation,” the former defender praised the Englishman.
Salah nestles in a nice row with a hat trick of assists
Mohamed Salah stepped into the spotlight on Monday night with a hat-trick of assists for Liverpool visiting Leicester City. It is the first time that the Egyptian has succeeded in doing so in a Premier League match.
Salah helped Curtis Jones score twice and also assisted Trent Alexander-Arnold’s final goal. With that, the attacker now stands at nineteen goals and ten assists this season. Only four players have scored 10 goals and provided 10 assists in four different Premier League seasons. Only Wayne Rooney did that even five times.
It is not the first time this season that a player has a hat-trick of assists in the Premier League. Earlier, teammate Roberto Firmino did the same against Bournemouth. In March, Leandro Trossard provided three assists on behalf of Arsenal against Fulham and Michael Olise also did the same for Crystal Palace against Leeds United last month.
With his hat-trick of assists, Salah made a major contribution to Liverpool’s seventh win in a row. With this, Liverpool has played itself out of a hopeless situation and in theory even Champions League football is still possible. “That’s unbelievable,” said Jurgen Klopp afterwards. “Six weeks ago I didn’t believe that could happen. We lacked stability at the time. But this is absolutely amazing.’
