Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti admits the elimination in the Champions League. His team lost the second semi-final to Manchester City without a chance on Wednesday evening: 4-0.
Ancelotti has a ‘fairly simple’ explanation for the hopeless CL elimination
Manchester City really outclassed Real Madrid on all fronts and can call itself a finalist. Ancelotti knows that the time for licking wounds has come. “It’s quite simple: they played better than us from the beginning to the end. They played strong with a high intensity. We tried to come back, but it proved impossible. They were better and deserved to win,” Ancelotti told beIN Sports.
Ancelotti does not want to talk about the how and why. “It is not yet the time to talk about what went wrong tactically. We are very disappointed, have to swallow this defeat and look forward to the new Champions League season. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. That’s sports. You have to learn from the defeat to do better in the future.’
In any case, Ancelotti is clear about his own future: he will continue as coach of Real Madrid. He mentioned, “No one doubts me. I think the president was very clear recently: this is an opportunity for us to improve. Next year I’m here to fight for the Champions League one more time.”
On June 10, Manchester City and Internazionale will compete against each other in the Champions League final. It will be played in Istanbul.
Bernardo takes sweet revenge: “Last year was still in my head”
Bernardo Silva was the star man of Manchester City on Wednesday evening during the resounding victory over Real Madrid (4-0). The Portuguese scored the first two goals and was named man of the match. Afterwards, the star reacted emotionally.
“This was a great night for us,” Bernardo told BT Sport. “We knew this was going to be tough. But if you can beat this Real Madrid 4-0, that’s great. And certainly after last year, that was still in my head.”
At the time, Real Madrid could still turn the tide in the end. This time it was impossible due to the force majeure of The Citizens. “They are always strong, always great. But we, with all the people here behind us, wanted to go to the final again. Just like two years ago. Hopefully we can win it now,” he said.
“That match in Madrid was tough,” said Bernardo. “Then we knew what to expect. Even after that 2-0 we still felt the pressure, also through last year. They pushed us back, but we were able to score. We remained patient, organized and passionate this time. I’m so glad it works now.”
Bernardo was critical after the first leg. Especially on his own, but now he was speaking to the press with a big smile. “My game at the Bernabéu was not good. I had to compensate for that. I felt really bad after that match. It had to be better for my teammates and fans. To help them like that, with two goals, that means so much to me,” he concluded.
