Antony would do well to emulate Riyad Mahrez, says Gary Neville. The Manchester United attacker was again unable to make a difference against Arsenal (3-2 defeat) on Sunday and has been waiting for a goal in the Premier League since October 9.
Neville highlighted the difference between the forwards of Arsenal and Manchester United to highlight where The Gunners won the battle. The analyst pointed out, “if you compare Saka and Martinelli to Rashford and Antony… Rashford looked dangerous, but Antony has to show more.” Manchester City attacker Mahrez, who has scored two goals and just as many assists in his last two matches, is a good example, according to Neville.
The former Man United defender added, “He needs to look at Mahrez and ask himself how he can become that type of player in the next 12 to 18 months. I liked Nketiah better than Weghorst, but Weghorst was okay. I thought United played a lot better today than I expected. Arsenal is a very tough opponent. If you compare this to where United were at the end of last season, they have plenty to be happy about.”
Roy Keane expects his team to have improved after spending over 200 million pounds
Roy Keane responded to Neville’s last comment in the Sky Sport studio. “You can’t keep comparing to last season. Then they were so bad,” said the club icon. “They will always do better than last season. They have spent over two hundred million pounds, so we should be in a better position than last season. A realistic goal this season, unfortunately, is to finish in the top four and take home a trophy. I didn’t like them very much today. I saw bad defensive work, as the trainer also said.”
Neville sees that despite the expenditure, Manchester United still plays with the necessary players who may not have the right level of quality. He completed, “We still see many of the same players who were not considered good enough by previous trainers. Ten Hag gets the most out of them, but they sometimes keep making mistakes at important moments. That’s not the trainer’s fault.”
