Champions League bound Newcastle can smell the Champions League and is planning to go hard next summer. The wealthy English top club wants to invest a lot of money. Perr Schuurs and Declan Rice, among others, must shine at St. James’ Park next season.
Oil-rich Newcastle United hopes to bring in trio of England internationals
Although many tens of millions of euros have been invested since the takeover by a Saudi investment company, it has so far been relatively quiet around Newcastle on the transfer market. Top players such as Bruno Guimarães, Alexander Isak and Sven Botman were brought in for a lot of money, but the club did not seem to be able to compete with the British elite yet. However, with the Champions League on the horizon, everything changes.
According to The Telegraph, the confidence of the club management in Eddie Howe is extremely high and the manager will have the opportunity to provide his selection with a significant quality boost. Howe has handed in a list of wishes and is given the freedom to go wild on the transfer market. The arrival of four specific players would be a high priority.
The British medium reports that James Maddison (Leicester City), Ivan Toney (Brentford) and Declan Rice (West Ham United) must come to Newcastle. The trio of England internationals costs a fortune, but because of the boundless confidence in Howe, the club has decided to adopt a more aggressive strategy on the transfer market. The amount that has to be allocated for the trio is gigantic. According to the well-established British newspapers, Rice costs at least a hundred million euros.
Another Dutch centre-back wanted at St. James’ Park
Player number four at the top of Howe’s wish list is Schuurs. The Limburger could never break through to Ajax as an undisputed fixed value, but has developed into one of the most coveted defenders in Europe within one season in Serie A. Sky Sport Italia reports that Newcastle is eager to bring the 23-year-old Dutchman to St. James’ Park.
His performances at Torino have impressed the English top club. Especially the leadership qualities and self-confidence of the imperturbable Schuurs would have convinced Howe of his qualities. Torino sees it rubbing their hands, because the Italians want at least thirty million euros for the defender.
It is striking that Schuurs on the Tyneside can be reunited with Sven Botman. The duo already played together at Jong Ajax in the past. Just like Schuurs, Botman was never able to break through in the main force of the team from Amsterdam. He eventually ended up in England via Lille, after Newcastle paid about forty million euros for him.
