Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel has signed a new two-year contract as his Champions League win earns Tuchel an extension.
Among other Chelsea football transfer news, the German manager has penned new terms with the Blues.
Thomas Tuchel has signed a two-year contract extension at Chelsea.
The Blues made a change in their dugout back in January, ushering club legend Frank Lampard toward the exit door.
In his stead a former Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain boss was brought in.
And Tuchel made an immediate impact, overseeing a top-four finish and becoming a finalist, but losing, in the FA Cup.
Tuchel then went on to land major silverware in the European showpiece Champions League, convincing Roman Abramovich of his worth.
Champions League Win Earns Tuchel an Extension
Abramovich offered Tuchel, who replaced Frank Lampard at Stamford Bridge in January, following Chelsea’s victory over Manchester City in Porto.
The man who was initially handed only an 18-month deal now has an extension for delivering Champions League glory.
And Tuchel has talked to Chelsea’s official website about agreeing to fresh terms.
He said: “I cannot imagine a better occasion for a contract renewal. I am grateful for the experience and very happy to stay part of the Chelsea family.
“There is far more to come and we are looking forward to our next steps with ambition and much anticipation.”
Additionally, Blues director Marina Granovskaia said about the extension: “When Thomas joined us in January there was still so much to play for domestically and in Europe. He slotted in seamlessly and immediately became an integral part of the Chelsea family.”
“Returning us to the top four in the Premier League was crucial, and we could not be happier with our success in the Champions League which crowned a remarkable season at Chelsea,” he went on.
“We are obviously extremely pleased therefore to retain Thomas for a further two years, and look forward to more achievements in the coming seasons.”
