Although Manchester United has recently had success, ex-United defender Rio Ferdinand still has criticisms for the team. The legend of the team demands more from Jadon Sancho. Since joining from Borussia Dortmund last year, the attacker has lost his unique talent, according to Ferdinand.
Sancho, who had an underwhelming debut season, received at least 75 and a maximum of 95 million euros from United last year. Sancho was expected to cross the dead centre this season as the wing flash began out strong, but the Englishman hasn’t showed much since. In the championship match against Chelsea last Saturday, Erik ten Hag replaced Sancho after 52 minutes.
Ex-United defender Rio Ferdinand wants sancho to dismantle teams
On his YouTube channel Vibe with FIVE, Ferdinand bemoans the fact that “his confidence is just not there. Since he played at Old Trafford, that magical something he possessed has vanished. Sancho, who I know and have seen, has accomplished some outstanding feats. But now I observe him deliberately playing the ball back in order to maintain possession. Man, this isn’t you.”
Sancho is seen by Ferdinand practising his defence: “And for that, I give him credit. But United has brought him in because they feel the offensive is missing something,” Ferdinand keeps going. “We purchased him to dismantle teams, not as a defender. I’d like to see him more often.”
Sancho has made 52 appearances for United so far, scoring just eight goals and providing five assists. In his last season with Borussia Dortmund, the attacker was good for sixteen goals and twenty assists in 38 games.
Furthermore, in his four years in Germany the winger had scored 38 goals in 104 appearances. This in turn led to his move to Old Trafford. Which cost the Red Devils a fee of £76.50 million.
It is expected that Sancho will not be selected by England coach Gareth Southgate for the upcoming World Cup in Qatar.
