Football Highlights: Sergio Aguero has stated that he will travel with Argentina to the FIFA World Cup, which will be held in Qatar, over a month after announcing his retirement from football. After meeting with Argentine Football Association (AFA) president Claudio Tapia on Monday, Aguero said that he will be part of the squad as a backroom staff member.
Due to a cardiac issue, Sergio Aguero, 33, was forced to retire from soccer. Over the course of his 18-year career, the Argentine attacker scored over 400 goals for both club and country.
Aguero, on the other hand, isn’t sure what his role will be, but he’s excited to be back with the squad and ready to help in any way he can.
“We still need to figure out the role, but I’ll be with the team at the World Cup,” Aguero told TyC Sports. “It was a nice talk with Chiqui (Tapia).”
“I want to spend time with the players,” he added. “I’ll be there with the team, I get along very well with them. I want to be close to them and try to have fun. I want to find a way I can help the national team.”
Aguero has appeared in 101 appearances for Argentina, scoring 41 goals. He was a member of the team for three World Cups and also assisted them in winning the Copa America in 2021, which was their first major victory in 28 years.
Argentina is second in the South American qualifying group, four points behind Brazil, and has already qualified unbeaten for Qatar.
