Retired footballer Sergio Agüero will soon make his comeback on the football field, albeit once. The Argentinian top striker of yesteryear has accepted an invitation from Barcelona SC to play in an exhibition game on January 28, which will be the opening of the new season.
Agüero was forced to end his career in December 2021 due to heart problems. At that time, the former player of Atlético Madrid and Manchester City played for Barcelona. For which he only played five times and scored once. More than a year later, Agüero returns to the field for a while. The 34-year-old former international will participate on January 28 during El Noche del Amarilla (The Night of the Yellow), the annual opening of the season of Barcelona SC, the record champion of Ecuador.
“I can’t wait to get started,” Aguero said
In the past, legends such as Ronaldinho, Kaká, Andrea Pirlo and Carlos Tévez have already participated at the club’s invitation, now Agüero has been invited by Barcelona president Carlos Alfaro Moreno. Agüero has announced via Twitch that he has been given the green light by his doctor to participate. “I can’t wait to get started, I have a chip that the cardiologist uses to check my heart. I feel good and have already started training. So I can compete during the Noche del Amrarilla. I hope I can enjoy the field again,” he announced.
Agüero also addressed the criticism he received for his role in the festivities after the World Cup final. The 101-time international joined the national squad at the invitation of Lionel Messi and caused a sensation by insulting French midfielder Eduardo Camavinga after winning the world title. “I went too far during the festivities on the pitch after the World Cup final,” admits Agüero. Who Messi also believed had had too much to drink. “But now I hope to play again soon after a year away from the field and the public.”
