The German federation DFB has given national coach Hansi Flick job security. It should also be noted that it will really have to be better during the next international period in September.
Flick promises his bosses things will get well soon
Things are not going well with Germany, that much is clear. Flick’s team lost to Poland and Colombia, played a draw against Ukraine and is not doing well in the run-up to next year’s European Championship to be held in Germany. German media meanwhile saw Flick’s chair legs, but DFB chairman Bernd Neuendorf does not want to know anything about a dismissal.
“We all wished for more successful matches since the World Cup. We are therefore very disappointed and frustrated,” Neuendorf told BILD. “I spoke to Hansi Flick on the phone. He himself, but also the players, are very self-critical. The national coach has assured me that in September we will see a team that performs differently than last time.” Germany will play exhibition games against Japan and France in September.
Flick’s position is under discussion, Klopp would already sought as a successor
The position of Hansi Flick is quite controversial in Germany. DFB chairman Bernd Neuendorf ruled out a premature departure of the national coach on Wednesday, but German media know that the association has already inquired about a possible successor in the background.
After the debacle at the World Cup in Qatar, where Germany was already eliminated in the group stage, Jürgen Klopp has reportedly already been asked to take over Flick’s duties. However, according to Bild and Sport1, the German manager of Liverpool declined the offer as he is not yet finished with the project at Anfield.
On Wednesday, Bild again advocates Klopp’s appointment in an opinion piece, although the boulevard magazine realizes that it will probably not succeed in getting him out of Liverpool. Another candidate being put forward is Oliver Glasner. The Austrian coach recently left Eintracht Frankfurt.
Director Rudi Völler lashed out at the players and chairman Neuendorf spoke up for the national coach in front of the SID news agency. “I talked to Hansi Flick on the phone. He is very critical of himself, just like the players. The national coach assured me that we will see a different team in September,” he said.
Neuendorf acknowledges that recent results have fallen short of expectations. “We had all hoped for more successful international matches since the World Cup. We are all very frustrated and disappointed after yesterday’s game. Nevertheless, a dismissal of Flick is not on the agenda for the DFB at the moment,” he concludes.
