Jürgen Klopp was a satisfied manager after the top match against Arsenal. The coach praised the resilience of his Liverpool, but was left in disbelief afterwards. However, a tipping point seems to have been found.
Klopp is proud of the comeback but questions how his team couldn’t find the winner
“A step in the right direction,” Klopp said of the draw against the leader. “It is the first time in a long time that we have responded well to a setback. We didn’t fall apart. That could have happened if you see what mostly happened this year. But it didn’t become 0-3, it didn’t happen. We were ready to fight back.”
Liverpool made little progress with a point, but Klopp’s reaction did appeal to his team. “Of course it was great. It is difficult to stay cool with a 0-2 deficit. But everything looked better. We completely turned the game around in the second half. And with the chances we got we should have scored more. A point is okay, but I wonder how we couldn’t win this?” the German asks.
Klopp slightly adjusted his tactics for the British squatter. Afterwards he explained what the difference was. “We played a bit more compactly, with the front three attackers close together and the lines short. We played a little more long balls, we had to adapt to that. That allowed us to go for the second goal. We often won. We played result-oriented, until after the break. Then all brakes went off. After that we were in the driver’s seat,” he explained.
“The turning point is here”
The British media also saw that Liverpool recovered after a difficult season. Liverpool Echo thinks the first contours of a new successful formation were visible. “This team showed they can dominate against the best team in the league. The players discovered qualities that epitomized the era under Klopp for many years. Suddenly they were there again,” he said.
“The top four may have said goodbye to Liverpool, but this could well mean a moment of turnaround,” the local medium thought. Next season the club will be back at the top, the newspaper expects. “The turning point is there. The value of the result is negligible, but Klopp and the players have shown they still have the spirit. The intensity is back, the resilience is back. The new Liverpool has broken loose,” they added.
