Harry Maguire: Manchester United have been going through a pretty rough phase off late. It is unlikely we see them challenge for one of the Champions League spots if their recent performances are anything to go with.
The club has failed to deliver across all departments of the field. However, it is their defence that is subject to plenty of criticism. The club’s captain and the defender who was signed for a world record fee, Harry Maguire has unfortunately been the centre point of all the heat the club has received.
Former Leeds United goalkeeper Paddy Kenny has commented regarding the situation in a recent interview with Football Insider’s Ben Wild.
“The whole bomb threat thing, that is an absolute embarrassment as well,” Kenny said.
“This guy has a wife and kids. Come on, it’s a game of football. It’s his job.
“Doesn’t everyone have bad days at work? How is he meant to play to his best when he has all of this going on?
“I think the treatment he has had is completely unfair. How is he meant to play to his best when this stuff is going on?
“I know this is only one person but the abuse he gets, the booing when he played for England, how is that going to help?
“If the fans start supporting him, maybe he will play better. We know he is a good defender.”
