Atletico Madrid beat Real Betis 3-0 at home yesterday, extending their home winning streak against ‘Los Verdes’ to nine games. So, last night saw, in La Liga football news, Atletico Madrid excel at the Wanda Metripolitano stadium.
Real Betis came into the match in fine form. After all, they have earned 21 points from their first 11 La Liga games – their club history’s second-best tally.
Yet, Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid men showed why they have only lost one of their last 18 clashes against Betis.
And we must say, Atletico badly needed a win after barely drawing 2-2 with Levante last time out.
And now, with this win, Los Colchoneros are sitting comfortable in the 4th place just 2 points behind the leaders.
La Liga Football News – Atletico Madrid Excel at the Wanda Metropolitano
Though the reigning champions of Spain played this match in the midst of torrential rain, both teams began proceedings fiercely.
Either side, hosts Atletico Madrid and their guests Real Betis, immediately opened their plays on the front foot, in attack.
And this is why both sides created a lot of chances in the opening 15 minutes.
Just before the 30th minute mark, Atleti broke the deadlock with Yannick Carrasco. We could see him lashing the ball into the roof of the net to give the hosts the lead.
The visitors pushed hard to level the score in the second half, but it was for nought.
That is because German Pezzella headed the ball into his own net from an Atletico corner kick instead. This own goal doubled the hosts’ lead to 2-0 and made the things even more complicated for Betis.
Then, finally, the game was over with 10 minutes remaining on the clock when Joao Felix fired a skilled shot. His ball went flying into the bottom right corner of Claudio Bravo’s net.
While referees initially ruled the goal out for offside, the VAR review overturned the call to allow the goal. And that is how Atletico Madrid made sure to extend their lead to three goals, conceding none.
