Among other La Liga football news, Granada beat Sevilla 1-0, marginally, at home in an Andalusian derby.
This result means Sevilla have now suffered a 1-0 defeat in consecutive visits to the Nuevo Estadio de Los Cármenes.
At the same time, though, Robert Moreno avoided an unwanted record within the home side. He narrowly escaped becoming the first Granada head coach to not win his first 8 La Liga games in charge.
La Liga Football News – Granada Beat Sevilla 1-0 Marginally at Home
Sevilla dominated the possession of the ball, but it was Granada who took the first lead when Ruben Rochina scored.
Rochina delivered a superb long-range effort from outside the box with 25 minutes into the game.
What’s more, this was his first goal for Granada since rejoining the club from Levante last summer.
Luis Suárez could have doubled Granada’s advantage moments later with an equally brilliant volley, but VAR review disallowed his goal.
Diego Carlos, meanwhile, had a chance to equalize with a header. But it just sailed over the bar in the latter stages of the first half.
Lopetegui’s side quickly came out of the traps at the start of the second half. They were eagerly for an equalizer but Erik Lamela’s effort was blocked.
Granada keeper Luís Maximiano was largely a spectator in the second half. But that was until Jesús Navas drifted in a ball towards Munir. The Portuguese goalie blocked this attempt at the near post.
On top of that, it wasn’t a night to remember for Diego Carlos, who received a second yellow card. He has to thus quit the pitch an injury time to ensure Sevilla ended the game with 10 men.
