Sevilla claimed a 2-0 victory over Real Betis at Estadio Benito Villamarin. So, continuing their 2021/22 campaign’s impressive start, among other La Liga football news, Sevilla defeated Real Betis with real ease.
As we all expected, the enmity between the two teams was evident from the start in this Spanish league fixture.
This ‘Great Derby’ victory extends Sevilla’s run of sparkling form against their cross-city rivals. They have now evaded defeat in 11 of their last 12 away matches against Betis.
To compound their joy, further, ‘Los Rojiblancos’ ended a three-game home win streak Betis. The hosts have not win four matches in a row for the first time since 2018.
Also, Sevilla have now collected 27 points from their first 12 matches – the second-best tally in club history. This means that they are now placing third in the standings, behind only Real Madrid and Real Sociedad.
La Liga Football News – Sevilla Defeated Real Betis with Real Ease
Although the game was fast-paced, the extra energy due to the rivalry didn’t appear to inspire either team’s attacking quality. As such, neither side created ‘big chances’ within the first 37 minutes.
Still, it was Real Betis who seemingly managed to open the score just 10 minutes before the half time whistle.
Hector Bellerin was played in behind and slotted the ball into the back of the net.
However, referees ruled out this game due to offside moments later and the match remained level at a goalless 0-0.
The tables turned before the half time whistle, though, when Betis midfielder Guido Rodríguez received his second yellow card.
He suffered the warning for a trip from behind. And this forced the hosts to finish off the remainder of the match a man down.
The visitors were able to take advantage of their numerical superiority just ten minutes into the second half. Marcos Acuna unleashed a rocket from his left foot into the upper-left corner of the net.
Thus, Acuna’s goal for Sevilla finally broke the deadlock in this match.
The game was then put to bed with ten minutes remaining on the clock. A Gonzalo Montiel cross ricocheted off of Bellerin’s knee and into the back of his own net.
This second goal from the guests dashed any hopes of a Betis turnaround.
