Though the hosts received a red card in the second half, Valencia failed to score against title-chasing Real Sociedad. Instead, Reale Arena saw, in last night’s La Liga football news, Sociedad and Valencia play a scoreless draw of 0-0.
Looking to reclaim their place at the top of La Liga, Real Sociedad squared off against a Valencia side. The latter are sat in the depths of mid-table.
Despite an extra man and six minutes of added-time, the visitors failed to find a winning goal. Thus, this goalless tie again leaves them right in the middle of the table.
As for Real Sociedad, the San Sebastian side evolved to second place, just one point behind the leaders, Real Madrid.
La Liga Football News – Sociedad and Valencia Play a Scoreless Draw
The opening period reflected the contrasting fortunes of the two Spanish teams this season, with Sociedad maintaining possession well.
But though the hosts were continually pressing for an opener, they played the first half without creating a clear-cut chance.
As the half progressed, the game fell into a more evenly-matched tempo. Still, chances were increasingly hard to come by for both sides keeping them level by the half time.
And the second half saw much of the same, with the only difference being guests Valencia’s added attacking intent.
The hosts have scored 17 of their 19 La Liga goals in the second half ahead of this game. So, in fact, they would have felt much more confident in their pursuit of the winner.
It became clear that Imanol Alguacil wanted to change up the game when he opted to introduce Mikel Oyarzabal. He made this substitution in the hope that the midfielder would add a creative spark.
This change, however, had little effect on the game and the task, then, only increased for the hosts. Aritz Elustondo was shown a straight red card after committing a needless foul with 25 minutes remaining on the clock.
