Ligue 1 Football News – Marseille Suffer a Déjà vu in an Abandoned Game
A rogue bottle from some fans in the stands at Nice hit Marseille’s Dimitri Payet just 5 minutes in. Payet got the bottle knocked into his head when he was about to take a corner as the game started.
As a consequence, referee Ruddy Buquet sent the two teams to the dressing room. And after a long wait, Marseille’s players decided not to return on the away pitch.
Eventually, almost two hours after the game was halted, it was officially called off.
Marseille had to abandon a game at Nice back in August in similar circumstances, where almost the same happened, eerily.
Then, a fan’s bottle hit Payet and he threw it back into the crowd, causing fans to storm the pitch.
